School Presentations

education Our School Presentations serve to educate, inform and dispel stigma.

We are proud to offer two effective and powerful programs in the schools.

Parents and Teachers as Allies

This program is presented to groups of school professionals. A trio of trained individuals takes the professionals through an informative PowerPoint, live testimony of a young person just  recently out of school and an open Q & A session.  These three segments bring enlightenment and insight to the participants. The goal of this in-service is to share the family experience, sensitize teachers to much of what they don’t see outside of the school day and to provide relevant techniques for working with often confused, frustrated parents, and their children.

Ending the Silence

This brand new program developed by NAMI of DuPage County is specifically for young high school students and is designed to be taught in a single class period.  Two presenters, one parent of a child with a mental illness and one youth in recovery, discuss their respective experiences in coping with mental illness. An accompanying PowerPoint laced with video clips, explains what mental illnesses are and are not, how they have a biological basis like any other illness and finally, how to seek help if you or someone you know may require help. This class generates amazing questions from the young people, and empowers them with facts and resources.

Signed statements of recommendation from these presentations are available in our office. Don’t hesitate to call us if you have questions about how to bring these potent programs to your school.
