WE NEED YOU!!
TELL YOUR STORY TO INSPIRE AND GIVE HOPE!
There is nothing like the rewards that come from telling your story to help others, in a NAMI “In Our Own Voice” presentation. This opportunity provides a profound sense of gratification, as one describes their life journey with mental illness, to inform the public and reduce stigma. To have hope and pass it on is the best gift of all!
NAMI CCNS will provide the training for this program . (After training, a one-year commitment is required.) If interested please contact the NAMI CCNS office at 847-716-2252.
HELP EDUCATE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
“Rewarding and Inspiring” …..words often used to describe the feelings of our parent volunteer speakers using their own life experience to help others. This opportunity provides a profound sense of gratification from participating in a NAMI CCNS “Ending the Silence” or “Parents and Teachers as Allies” signature NAMI program. Our goal is to get more of these valuable school programs into both public and private schools each year. First, however we are in need of more parents, willing to tell their story.
WE CANNOT DO IT WITHOUT YOU!
“ENDING THE SILENCE” is a power point/speaker presentation geared towards freshmen and/or sophomore students. It focuses on the symptoms and indicators of mental illnesses such as, bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, ADHD, and schizophrenia. With a parent presenting and briefly telling their own story and perspective, the students often connect and reach out for themselves or others.
“PARENTS AND TEACHERS AS ALLIES” is a mental health education program for school professionals. It focuses on helping these professionals and families within the school community, better understand the early warning signs of mental illness in children and adolescents, and how best to intervene, so that youth with mental health treatment needs are linked with services. An impact is made when parents tell their personal experience with their children in need, while navigating through the school system.
