Across the country, thousands of trained NAMI volunteers bring peer-led programs to community settings, sharing information in accessible spaces including libraries, churches, schools and even NAMI offices.

Our volunteers carry with them, the unique understanding that only comes from lived experience. These programs and support groups provide outstanding free education, skills training & support.

Family-to-Family (of Adults) Classes

Do You Have A Loved One Living With Mental Illness? The NAMI Family-to-Family Education Program is a FREE 9-week course for families and close friends of adults with mental illness. This course is taught by trained teachers who are also family members and know what it is like to have a loved one living with mental illness, such as major depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and other disorders.

Chai and Chat

Chai and Chat is: Chai and Chat is developed specifically for individuals of Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives ancestry. Chai and Chat is a three-part community conversation series designed to empower communities to share openly about the stresses of acculturation/integration, family and community pressures, generational trauma, racism and inequalities in accessing care. It is an opportunity to hold listening circles for, by and about South Asian Communities and provide the opportunity to validate and explore participants’ mental wellness journeys and discover avenues of support.
