It’s important to know that psychosis is a symptom, not a specific illness, and can be one of the symptoms of several different illnesses. It’s also more common than you may think. Research suggests that 15-100 people out of 100,000 develop psychosis each year.

Understanding Psychosis
Psychosis involves disruptions to a person’s thoughts and perceptions that make it difficult for them to recognize what is real and what isn’t. Many describe it as a “break with reality,” often involving seeing, hearing, or believing things that aren’t real.
Acting Fast Matters: Early or First-Episode Psychosis (FEP) refers to the first signs of losing contact with reality. Acting quickly to connect a person with specialized treatment can be life-changing and radically alter their future trajectory.
